In some people, the lip structure may be thin or a decrease in lip thickness may occur with the decrease in the amount of fat tissue in the lip with aging. There are many interventions that can be performed for lip thickening, depending on the problem and age of the person.
- Thickening of the lip using permanent materials taken from the body
- Lip thickening using fillers
- Surgical procedures to advance the lip mucosa (red colored part)
Autogenous (taken from the person himself/herself) fillers or foreign substances can be used as fillers. Autogenous dermis grafts, fascia grafts and fat grafts can be applied for lip thickening. Since fat grafts are largely melted after a certain period of time, their permanence is limited. Dermis and fascia grafts are tissues that show less melting and have a longer permanence. By placing these tissues into the lip, the lip volume is increased and thus lip thickening is achieved.
These procedures can be easily performed under local anesthesia. Swelling usually disappears within 7-10 days.
Thickening of the lip with hyaluronic, a substance present in the body and injected under the skin and mucosa, which is used to thicken the lip, is a non-surgical method. One of the longer-acting fillers developed in recent years and applied in our clinic is the injection form of calcium hydroxyapetite. This substance maintains its permanence for a period of up to 7 years.
